Jamie's Italian @ VivoCity

The now official hubby has decided to make an appearance again by writing the post for Jamie Oliver's restaurant, Jamie's Italian at VivoCity.

We finally made it to Jamie's! It was packed as usual for dinner and we managed to get a seat in 30mins (the usual wait can be up to 2hours!) Thank goodness for the SMS system that's in place. Just leave your phone number and the staff will send you an SMS once a table is available to you.

This is no fancy schmancy restaurant and you'll be perfectly welcomed even if you turn up in jeans and slippers. The place is decorated in a very much contemporary manner - think bright red stuffed sofa seats and wood-grain patterned tables. On each table, there's a copy of the menu, a simple, single page with all the food listed.

The bunny couldn’t decided between the Black Angel Spaghetti or the Brixham Bay Crab Risotto so the hubby decided to make the decision (so MCP! hehe), while the Lamb Chop Lollipops was my final choice (I wanted to try all the mains actually).

The Brixham Bay Crab Risotto ($19) came with breadcrumbs (in) the spoon, and the wife was kinda confused if she should mix everything in or just add it bit by bit. Whichever way you are going to eat it, it’s pretty interesting to have a crunchy bite to the usually mashed texture of risotto. The risotto itself was very creamy and had a slight tanginess. The rice grains have been simmered till it's soft and easily slides down the throat. Sadly, the chefs at Jamie's were a little too stingy with the crab meat. The taste of the sea just wasn't in this dish.

The Lamb Chop Lollipops ($29.90) was essentially 4 pieces of bone-in lamb chops served on a wooden platter. The meat absorbed the tasty, savory marinate and the flavors penetrated even the core of the chop. The artichoke and mint sauce complemented the lamb rather well and helped to take away the distinctive lamb odor. The only drawback was that the lamb was a little too overcooked and becoming too chewy as a result.

The bunny almost never goes to a meal without dessert (god knows how she maintains the figure) so she ordered Tutti Frutti Lemon Meringue ($11.50). The meringue had a airy, pillowy lightness and its sweetness balanced perfectly with the tart, citrus filling. Eat them together with the buttery crust and you have really close to a perfect dessert.

Jamie's menu continues to tempt me to come back again to sample the rest of the food. Of course, this is provided the wallet allows and… MUST MAKE RESERVATION!
