Dim Sum @ Victor's Kitchen

Sunshine Plaza is not a place I would usually go, but having heard so many good reviews on the dim sum at Victor's, I decided to make a trip down specially. Victor's Kitchen is situated at #01-21, Sunshine Plaza.

The place is small, but we managed get seats almost immediately.

At Victor's, you are given a slip of paper with the menu printed and you fill in the quantity of the items you want.

As printed on their menu, "We serve the best foods, but no fast foods", expect to wait a while for your food to be served. They seem to be pretty shorthanded during my visit.

First served was the HK Summer Iced Tea ($3). It came immersed in a bowl of ice, instead of having the ice in the drink. Quite clever as the melted ice doesn't dilute the tea. The milk tea itself was robust and rich. Be careful as you finish your drink though, the plastic cup "floats" on the bowl of melting and is prone to toppling.

The Queen Size Siew Mai ($4) came in a basket of 4. It was bouncy and had bite to it but lacked the wow factor.

I was expecting the Scallop, Sausage Carrot Cake ($4) to be the pan fried types that are common nowadays so I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was steamed in a bowl and topped with sauce. The carrot cake was soft and the sauce that accompanied it was not overly salty.

The Char Siew Cheong Fun ($3.50) was rather average. The char siew filling within the rice roll was too little to make an impact. Also, I felt that the sauce was lacking in depth as the saltiness was too overpowering.

Last dish of my order was the Golden Egg Yolk Lava Bun ($4), a "must try" item from Victor's. True enough, the buns did not disappoint. The salted egg custard gushes out the moment you break the bun. The buns were fluffy and the salted egg custard was buttery and a right balance of sweet and savory. As the siew mai, the Golden Egg Yolk Lava Bun came in a basket of 4.

There are both hits and misses from Victor's Kitchen. I won't go out of the way for Victor's in future but probably will visit again if I'm in the vicinity for the carrot cake and lava bun.
